Srinagar,(DD): The Union Government has proposed an allocation of Rs 41,000.07 crore to the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir for the financial year 2025-26, according to the Union Budget presented today.
The budget figures reveal no increase in central assistance compared to the previous year, indicating a consistent funding approach by the Union Finance Ministry. Of the total allocation, Rs 40,619.30 crore has been earmarked as central assistance to bridge the UT’s resource gap.
In addition to this, Rs 279 crore has been allocated as grants towards contributions to the Union Territory Disaster Response Fund, while Rs 101.77 crore has been set aside to address resource gaps in infrastructure projects.
The budget documents also reveal that the financial assistance for the ongoing fiscal year has been revised downwards from Rs 42,277.74 crore to Rs 41,000.07 crore, reflecting possible adjustments in fiscal planning or underutilisation of previously allocated funds.
This static allocation may spark discussions regarding its adequacy in addressing the region’s unique developmental needs, especially in the context of ongoing infrastructure projects and disaster management requirements.(DD)
