Trap Case: ACB presents charge – sheet against ex-Sarpanch

SRINAGAR: J&K Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today presented a charge-sheet against a sarpanch in a trap case.
The ACB team presented charge-sheet in case FIR No 13 of 2023 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 of Police Station ACB Srinagar, Kashmir against accused public servant, then Sarpanch Manigam Ganderbal, in a bribery case before the Special Judge Anti-Corruption Court Srinagar.
The FIR was registered on 01-08-2023 on a written complaint alleging therein that aforesaid accused demanded ₹ 9, 000 as bribe for affecting settlement between the complainant and his sister, of a property dispute between them.
A trap was laid down and the accused was caught red-handed while accepting ₹ 9000 as bribe from the complainant.
The bribe money was recovered on spot and chemical tests later confirmed the presence of phenolphthalein on the accused’s hands.
Based on the facts and circumstances together with cogent evidences brought on record, the investigation established the commission of offence u/s 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against the accused public servant then Sarpanch Manigam Ganderbal.
After obtaining the requisite sanction for prosecution from the Govt the charge-sheet has been presented before the Court of Special Anti-Corruption Judge Srinagar, today for judicial determination. The next date of hearing has been fixed on 02-03-2026.DD
