Jammu,(DD): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today presented Jammu and Kashmir’s first budget in six years, calling it a “roadmap for economic growth” and a reflection of the people’s aspirations.

Addressing the legislative assembly, Abdullah, who also holds the finance portfolio, expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for their support in various sectors.

“This budget is a true reflection of our people’s dreams, the needs of future generations, and the aspirations of every citizen of J&K,” he stated.

This marks the first budget session since the National Conference-led government assumed office in October 2024, ending six years of central rule. The last budget was presented in 2018 under the PDP-BJP coalition before J&K’s reorganization in 2019.

Abdullah reaffirmed his government’s commitment to restoring statehood, a demand widely echoed across the region. “Restoration of statehood remains a deeply cherished aspiration of our people, and we are resolute in working towards its fulfillment,” he assured.

Reflecting on his journey, Abdullah shared on X (formerly Twitter) that he never imagined he would one day be presenting a budget. He also posted a picture of himself carrying the traditional budget briefcase alongside the late BJP leader Devender Singh Rana.

The budget outlines key initiatives across infrastructure, employment, and welfare, aiming to boost economic resilience and development in the Union Territory.(DD)
