Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday urged all communities in Jammu and Kashmir to avoid any action that could lead to tension or unrest.
“I am deeply concerned about the unfolding developments in Iran, including the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. I appeal to all communities to remain calm, uphold peace, and avoid any actions that could lead to tension or unrest,” said Omar Abdullah in a statement issued on Sunday.
He added, “We must also ensure that those who are mourning in Jammu and Kashmir are allowed to grieve peacefully. The police and administration should exercise utmost restraint and refrain from using force or restrictive measures.”
He further stated that the Government of Jammu and Kashmir is in close coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs to ensure the safety and well-being of J&K residents, including students currently in Iran.
DGP, IG Kashmir Review Ground Situation
The Director General of Police of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Nalin Prabhat, along with the Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, Vidhi Kumar Birdi, and other security officials, assessed the ground situation in Kashmir and visited several locations in Srinagar.
The review was carried out to maintain law and order after protests reportedly erupted in parts of the Kashmir Valley over the assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. Further details are awaited.DD
