Authorities deny AIP permission for hunger strike at Press Colony, party shifts venue

Diplomat Desk

Srinagar, (DD): The Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) was denied permission by authorities to hold a hunger strike at Press Colony, Srinagar, prompting the party to shift the venue to its office at Sangermal Complex, MA Road.

The hunger strike, originally planned for Friday, was intended to highlight a pressing issue, though official reasons for the denial of permission remain unclear.

AIP leader Firdous Baba confirmed the change in venue, stating that the program would now be held at 11:00 AM at the party office.

“We regret the inconvenience caused, but the hunger strike will go on as planned at our office,” Baba said in a statement.

The denial of permission has raised questions about the freedom to protest in Srinagar, particularly at Press Colony, which has historically been a hub for demonstrations and political gatherings.

Further details on the party’s demands and the administration’s response are awaited.(DD)
