Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday reviewed the flood situation in Rajouri and Poonch following incessant rain, flash floods and landslides, directing authorities to intensify rescue and relief operations and ensure immediate assistance to affected families.
The Lieutenant Governor reviewed the ongoing operations with senior officials and directed Deputy Commissioners and other authorities to provide prompt relief to those affected while keeping emergency response teams on high alert.
He said rescue teams comprising the civil administration, police, Army, SDRF and local volunteers were actively engaged in relief operations, with affected families shifted to safer locations.
Expressing grief over the loss of lives in Rajouri and the Haveli and Surankote areas of Poonch, the Lieutenant Governor said he had directed officials to ensure immediate assistance to all affected families and urged residents to remain calm and follow official advisories.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extensive damage caused by the flash floods and landslides, extending condolences to the bereaved families and wishing a speedy recovery to those injured.
He said the administration, SDRF, police and other agencies were fully engaged in rescue and relief operations and had been directed to ensure timely assistance to affected families.
In view of the weather warning and the evolving situation across parts of the Jammu division, the Chief Minister said he would travel to Jammu to personally monitor the situation on the ground. He added that he has been in constant touch with local MLAs and district officials to coordinate rescue and relief efforts.
Emphasising that safeguarding lives remains the government’s top priority, Omar Abdullah assured that every possible assistance would be provided to those who have suffered loss of life, property and livelihoods due to the heavy rains, flash floods and landslides.
The administration is closely monitoring the situation and will ensure swift rescue, relief and rehabilitation measures in all affected areas.
