Trump, Xi Reach Major Trade and Strategic Agreements During China Visit

Diplomat Foreign Desk
Beijing: United States President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping reached a series of significant agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, boosting trade and promoting global stability during President Trump’s official visit to China.

According to a fact sheet released by the White House, the visit marked the first visit by a U.S. President to China since 2017 and resulted in agreements covering strategic stability, trade, investment, agriculture and industrial cooperation.

The two leaders agreed that the United States and China should build a constructive relationship based on fairness, reciprocity and strategic stability. President Trump also extended an invitation to President Xi Jinping to visit Washington later this year.

Both countries pledged support for each other as hosts of the upcoming G20 and APEC summits and discussed key international security concerns.

On regional security issues, President Trump and President Xi agreed that Iran should not possess nuclear weapons, called for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and asserted that no country or organisation should be permitted to impose tolls on international passage. The leaders also reaffirmed their shared objective of denuclearising North Korea.

A key outcome of the meeting was the establishment of two new mechanisms designed to strengthen economic engagement — the U.S.-China Board of Trade and the U.S.-China Board of Investment.

According to the White House, the Board of Trade will enable both governments to manage bilateral trade involving non-sensitive goods, while the Board of Investment will serve as an official forum to discuss investment-related matters.

The discussions also produced a broad economic package aimed at benefiting American workers, farmers and industries.

China agreed to address U.S. concerns related to supply chain shortages involving rare earths and critical minerals, including yttrium, scandium, neodymium and indium. Beijing also committed to addressing restrictions related to the sale of rare-earth production and processing equipment and technologies.

In a major aviation deal, China approved an initial purchase of 200 American-made Boeing aircraft for Chinese airlines. According to the White House, this represents China’s first commitment to purchase American-made Boeing aircraft since 2017 and is expected to support high-skilled manufacturing jobs in the United States.

The two sides also reached agreements in the agricultural sector. China committed to purchasing at least 17 billion US dollars worth of American agricultural products annually during 2026, 2027 and 2028, in addition to soybean purchase commitments made in October 2025.

China further restored market access for U.S. beef by renewing expired approvals for more than 400 American beef facilities and adding new listings. Beijing also agreed to work with U.S. regulators to lift remaining suspensions on American beef facilities.

Additionally, China resumed imports of poultry from U.S. states certified by the United States Department of Agriculture as free from highly pathogenic avian influenza.

The White House described the agreements as a major step towards enhancing economic cooperation and contributing to peace and prosperity through stronger U.S.–China relations. (White House)
