Jammu: DD, The J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Jammu in collaboration with Bharatiya Sangeet Sansthan organized An Evening of Classical Music at the Writer’s Club, K.L. Saigal Hall, Jammu. The event witnessed an overwhelming response from music connoisseurs and lovers of Indian classical traditions.
The programme commenced with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by a warm welcome address bySonali Arun Gupta, JKAS, Additional Secretary, JKAACL. In her address, she highlighted the Academy’s continuous efforts in promoting and preserving the rich cultural and musical heritage of the region and emphasized the importance of organizing such programmes to encourage classical art forms among the younger generation.
The musical evening began with a Classical Vocal Recital by Karanjeet Singh, who captivated the audience with his soulful rendition and command over ragas. His performance received huge appreciation from the listeners.
This was followed by a Pakhawaj Solo by Kumari Chitrangana Agle Reshwal (Delhi), whose rhythmic mastery and powerful presentation mesmerized the audience with intricate patterns and dynamic improvisations.
The concluding performance was a Thumri–Dadra Recital by Kakali Mukherjee (Kolkata), which left the audience spellbound with her expressive voice, lyrical interpretations, and emotive depth.
The accompanying artists included Sanjit Mukherjee (Tabla), Rajveer Singh (Tabla), and Gouri Shankar (Harmonium), whose accompaniment added grace and depth to the evening’s performances.
The programme was ably conducted by Raj Kumar Behrupia, while Vijay Sambyal presented the formal vote of thanks.DD
