Boat Capsizes in Jhelum at Pampore; One Worker Drowns, Two Rescued

Pulwama, (DD)A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday morning along the Jhelum River near Litrabal, Pampore, when a boat carrying three sand diggers overturned during extraction work.

According to officials, the vessel capsized midstream while the men were engaged in sand-digging operations. Two of the workers were rescued promptly by locals and fellow labourers. The third, identified as Khursheed Ahmad Bhat of Chek Ranbir Pora, Damhal, Kulgam, drowned in the river.

Rescue teams, supported by local volunteers, have launched an operation to recover his body. Authorities said the mishap was caused by the boat becoming unstable due to excessive loading of sand combined with strong water currents.

Police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel remain on-site, continuing search efforts(DD)
