J&K: Indian Army Intensifies Security Measures on NH-44 to Thwart Terror Movement

Diplomat Correspondent

Jammu,(DD): In a significant move to curb terrorist activities and secure critical transit routes, the Indian Army has intensified deployment and surveillance along National Highway 44 (NH-44) to disrupt terror logistics, including the transportation of war-like stores (WLS) and the unauthorized movement of militants through the region.

Joint Mobile Vehicle Check Posts (MVCPs) have been established at multiple locations in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP). To enhance monitoring, the latest screening technologies—advanced vehicle scanners, AI-based facial recognition and identification systems, and automatic number plate recognition systems—have been installed at key junctions and entry-exit points.

The initiative is aimed at closing potential loopholes along NH-44, a critical corridor that has previously been exploited for the movement of weapons and insurgents.

Army units have also scaled up day and night patrolling, especially across vulnerable stretches and strategic choke points. The joint MVCPs function as mobile, unpredictable checkpoints designed to conduct randomized searches and minimize operational predictability, thus creating difficulties for potential threat actors.

Officials noted that the multi-layered strategy has already delivered positive outcomes, with several suspicious movements thwarted in recent weeks. The combination of physical dominance and technology-driven surveillance has significantly raised the threshold for terrorist activity along the highway.

The Indian Army’s proactive stance, reinforced by its coordination with JKP and use of cutting-edge monitoring tools, reflects a firm resolve to maintain peace and deny terrorists any logistical advantage in the Union Territory.

These measures are expected to remain in force and evolve further as part of an ongoing effort to neutralize militant networks and safeguard national infrastructure.(DD)
