SDM Thathri Issues Strict Deadlines for Pending Civic Works

Thathri (Doda), February 19 — The Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Thathri in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district conducted a comprehensive on-ground inspection of ongoing civic and development projects in the town, setting firm time-bound deadlines for completion to address delays and ensure quality execution.

According to details received by Diplomat Digital, SDM Sheetal Sharma (JKAS) led the inspection on Thursday, accompanied by key officials including the Tehsildar Thathri, Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department (R&B), Assistant Executive Engineer of the Jal Shakti Department, Executive Officer of the Municipal Committee Thathri, and the Station House Officer of Police Station Thathri. The visit focused on critical infrastructure along major routes in the sub-division headquarters, highlighting persistent issues such as incomplete retaining walls, water supply disruptions, encroachments, and substandard paving works.

During the review near the circular route by the Army Gate, the SDM directed the Executive Engineer, PWD (R&B), to finish construction of the retaining wall within one week. This measure aims to facilitate smooth vehicular traffic, particularly in preparation for upcoming culvert work. The Station House Officer was instructed to manage traffic flow during the construction phase to reduce inconvenience for local commuters and residents.

The inspection also identified leakages in water supply pipelines near the circular road and in front of the State Bank of India branch. The Jal Shakti Department received immediate orders to repair the leaks without delay, ensuring uninterrupted supply to households and allowing pending concrete works in the area to proceed. These repairs are seen as essential for maintaining basic civic services in Thathri, a growing sub-divisional town in the Chenab Valley region of Doda district.

In another action against unauthorised structures, the SDM took note of an illegal tea stall shed erected near the office of the Assistant Registrar Cooperative Societies. The Executive Officer of the Municipal Committee and the Tehsildar were directed to remove the encroachment promptly and submit a compliance report. Such steps underscore efforts to clear public spaces and prevent haphazard urban growth in the area.

The SDM further examined tile-laying work from National Academy Nallah to the Main Chowk, where deficiencies in execution were observed, including improper alignment and quality issues. The concerned contractor was ordered to relay the tiles as per prescribed standards, with close supervision by the Executive Officer of the Municipal Committee to ensure adherence to norms.

Throughout the inspection, SDM Sharma emphasised the need for inter-departmental coordination, strict accountability, and timely completion of all pending projects. Officials were reminded that delays in civic infrastructure not only affect daily life but also hinder overall development in Thathri and surrounding areas. The directions call for prioritising public interest, maintaining quality, and avoiding further setbacks in ongoing works funded under various government schemes.

Thathri, located in the Chenab Valley of Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir, serves as an important administrative and commercial hub for nearby villages and towns.
