Jammu, National Conference Additional General Secretary and former Minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra on Sunday expressed deep grief over the loss of lives and widespread damage caused by cloudbursts, landslides and flash floods in Rajouri, Surankote and other parts of the Pir Panjal region.
In a statement, Sadhotra extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, saying the tragedy had left many families shattered and displaced.
“My heart goes out to every family that has lost a loved one in this devastating natural calamity. I pray for eternal peace to the departed souls and strength to the bereaved families to bear this irreparable loss,” he said.
He also prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured and expressed hope that normalcy would be restored in the affected areas at the earliest.
Sadhotra appreciated Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for closely monitoring the situation and ensuring swift rescue, relief and rehabilitation measures. He also commended the efforts of the district administration, police, SDRF, NDRF, Army and other rescue agencies for their prompt response in saving lives and assisting those affected despite adverse weather and difficult terrain.
He called upon voluntary organisations, social groups and citizens to extend all possible support to the affected families and supplement the government’s relief efforts.
Emphasising the need for adequate compensation and comprehensive rehabilitation, Sadhotra urged the government to restore damaged roads, drinking water supply, electricity and communication services on a priority basis.
The former minister also stressed the importance of strengthening disaster preparedness and mitigation measures in vulnerable areas, saying climate-related disasters are becoming more frequent and require improved early warning systems, resilient infrastructure and greater public awareness.
Expressing solidarity with the affected families, Sadhotra said the National Conference stands with the people during this difficult time and will continue to support all efforts aimed at their relief, rehabilitation and welfare.
