Kishtwar Landslide: One Dead, One Missing; Massive Rescue Operation Underway


Kishtwar, J&K (India): A massive search operation has been launched in the Head Race Tunnel (HRT) Dangdaroo area of Kishtwar district following a landslide that killed one person, while another is still missing.

HRT Dangdaroo is an important component of the Pakal Dul Hydroelectric Project (1000 MW) in the mountainous district of Kishtwar.

According to initial reports, a landslide triggered by heavy rains in the district buried several persons. One person was confirmed dead, while another person was initially reported missing.

A rescue operation was immediately launched to trace the missing persons. During the search, one body was recovered. The rescue teams have continued efforts to retrieve the missing person, reportedly one, from the debris, which is being cleared using heavy machinery. Reports also indicate that more than four people sustained minor injuries.

To assist in the rescue operation, joint teams of the Indian Army, local police, civilians, and other agencies have been engaged in the search as the fate of the person remains unknown. The civil administration is continuously monitoring the situation.
