NEW DELHI: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has asserted that the Indian Armed Forces are fully prepared to counter any threat, stating that despite Pakistan’s continued reliance on proxy war and infiltration, India’s military remains vigilant and capable of responding to every challenge.
Addressing troops during a commemorative programme in Dras on the eve of the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas, Singh paid tribute to the heroes of the 1999 Kargil War, saying their courage, patriotism and sacrifice continue to inspire the nation and its armed forces.
Expressing confidence in the military, the Defence Minister said no adversary would dare cast an evil eye on India as long as the country’s soldiers remain steadfast in defending its borders. He added that the courage of the armed forces enables citizens to pursue their aspirations without fear.
During an interaction with troops at the Shaurya Bhoj, Singh noted that while the Kargil victory remains a source of pride, national security challenges persist. He reaffirmed the Narendra Modi government’s commitment to the welfare of soldiers and emphasised continued investment in defence modernisation to equip the armed forces with advanced weapons and technology.
Highlighting India’s progress towards self-reliance in defence, Singh said the armed forces have successfully embraced modern technologies and earned global recognition for their professionalism and valour. He expressed confidence that India’s military would emerge among the world’s best in the years ahead.
The Shaurya Bhoj at Vishwanathan Stadium featured demonstrations of drones, robotic mules and Army martial arts, along with cultural performances showcasing Ladakh’s heritage. The event was attended by Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth, senior military officers, Kargil War veterans, gallantry awardees, Veer Naris, families of martyrs, civil dignitaries and local residents.
Earlier, Rajnath Singh attended the Shaurya Sandhya programme at the Kargil War Memorial, where families of 10 Kargil War heroes were felicitated. He also received a Kalash of ‘Veeron Ki Mitti’, participated in an inter-faith prayer ceremony, witnessed the Beating Retreat, and lit lamps in memory of the fallen soldiers.
The commemorative events began with Yudh Sansmaran at Lamochen View Point, where veterans and families of martyrs recalled the bravery of Operation Vijay heroes. Students and Army personnel later participated in patriotic and cultural performances under the Gauravmay Sanskriti programme.
The Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations will conclude on July 26 with the Shradhanjali Samaroh, during which the Defence Minister will pay homage to the 545 martyrs of the Kargil War who made the supreme sacrifice in defence of the nation.
