IGP Jammu Review Security Preparedness Ahead of Winter

Jammu, October 1, 2026 — Senior police officials in Jammu and Kashmir have reviewed security and policing arrangements across Jammu district, with a particular focus on winter preparedness, crime prevention, and strengthening ground-level law enforcement mechanisms.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Zone Tejinder Singh chaired a security review meeting on Thursday, assessing the district’s overall policing framework and operational readiness. The review comes as authorities prepare for the onset of winter, a period that often presents logistical and security challenges in parts of the Jammu region.

Officials informed Diplomat Digital that the meeting focused on ensuring adequate preparedness for seasonal contingencies, maintaining law and order, and enhancing coordination among field units. Police officers were instructed to strengthen visible policing measures, including regular foot patrols, increased presence at vulnerable locations, and area domination exercises aimed at deterring criminal activity.

The IGP also directed officers to intensify surveillance and naka checking operations, emphasizing the need for proactive measures against criminal and anti-social elements. Discussions further covered the status of pending investigations, with officials asked to expedite case disposal and strengthen preventive action against repeat offenders.

Tenant verification emerged as another key area of focus. Officers were instructed to ensure proper verification of tenants and individuals residing in rented accommodations, a measure authorities say is intended to improve local intelligence gathering and enhance public safety.

The review reflects the Jammu and Kashmir Police‘s broader emphasis on preventive policing and operational preparedness amid evolving security requirements in the region. Officials were directed to maintain close supervision of field deployments and ensure responsive policing services for residents across Jammu district.
