Department of Social Work Completes Academic Exposure & Field Learning Visit

Leh, Ladakh (India): The Department of Social Work, Eliezer Joldan Memorial College (EJM College), Leh, successfully concluded its Academic Exposure and Field Learning Visit to New Delhi organized under the banner of PM-USHA (Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan).

The ten-day academic programme provided 12 students of the 5th Semester, accompanied by Dr. Yangchan Dolma, Head of the Department, and Jaspreet Singh, Assistant Professor, with extensive exposure to premier academic institutions and leading social development organizations in Delhi and Noida.

As part of the academic component, students visited the Delhi School of Social Work and the Department of Social Work, Jamia Millia Islamia, where they interacted with faculty members and scholars. Professor Sanjay Roy, Head of the Department at Delhi School of Social Work, briefed the students about the department’s history, academic structure, fieldwork model, and research environment. These interactions provided clarity regarding higher education opportunities and professional pathways in social work.

The field exposure included visits to organizations such as Naz Foundation, the New Delhi LGBTQIA+ Centre, Katha Lab School, DMRC Children’s Shelter Home, Ishay Foundation, and Sheroes Hangout Cafe by the Chhanv Foundation. Through these engagements, students gained practical understanding of child protection mechanisms, inclusive education models, HIV/AIDS awareness initiatives, LGBTQIA+ rights advocacy, women’s empowerment programmes, skill development interventions, and rehabilitation processes for survivors of gender-based violence.

The exposure visit significantly strengthened students’ professional competence, field understanding, and critical engagement with contemporary social issues. The programme successfully bridged classroom learning with field realities, reinforcing the importance of experiential education in social work training.

The Department expresses its sincere gratitude to Bhanu Prabha, Principal Secretary, Higher Education, UT Ladakh, for her encouragement and support, Prof. Stanzin Yangdol Principal, EJM College Leh, for her visionary leadership; and Dr. Samina Iqbal, State Programme Director, PM-USHA, for facilitating this academic initiative.

The Department also acknowledges the cooperation of all partner institutions and organizations that contributed to making this exposure visit meaningful and impactful.DD
